David Beers founded The Tyee, a top Canadian independent news site publishing investigative and solutions-focused journalism, and is The Tyee’s Editor for Initiatives. The Tyee twice received the North America-wide Edward R. Murrow Award and twice the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s General Excellence award. Beers was senior editor at Mother Jones and the San Francisco Examiner, and Chief Features Editor at the Vancouver Sun where he directed the National Newspaper Award-winning 72-page environmental series: “The Fate of the Georgia Strait”. His writing has been published in publications including Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, the Globe and Mail, National Geographic and Vancouver Magazine, garnering numerous prizes including National Magazine Awards in the U.S. and Canada. Blue Sky Dream, his memoir of growing up in the early heyday of Silicon Valley, is widely assigned in universities. He is an adjunct professor at the UBC Graduate School of Journalism in Vancouver.
